Most households in the UK have at least one mobile phone owner and multiple handsets.

They are cheap and plentiful and new models are pushed out by manufacturers and marketed as the next must have handset. Overall mobile phones have tended to improve peoples lives and are considered a highly useful tool.

When a new phone comes along, what do you do with the old one?The worst thing to do would be to throw it away, into the bin, because there it could end up on landfill sites. This is bad for a few reasons: The land it is buried in could be polluted by toxic elements contained inside many mobiles; Binning a mobile wastes materials that could be recycled and recycling old materials uses less energy than producing new materials.

So I can get cash for my old phone, is it worth it? Yes because recycling companies will pay cash for old mobile phones and you are preventing damage to the environment by doing so.

Recycling has become quite a common daily task now around the world. Governments have been providing us with bins and persuading us, sometimes even threatening us with fines, to recycle our used glass, paper, bottles and tins in order to solve the landfill problem. We have been doing this for free and quite rightly so.

It is a pleasant surprise to know that we can now actually get cash for recycling mobile phones. Web based recycling companies have popped up all over in the past few years in order to help people get cash locked away in old mobiles.

They pay cash for almost any handset because they can be recycled and contain many valuable components including gold. They even take broken or faulty handsets which can fetch up to 90% of the price of a working model.

Getting sent cash for an old or new unwanted handset has been made easy to understand so that anyone can do it.

How do I get cash for my mobile?

  1. Choose a recycling website.

  2. Type in the model number or the manufacturer then select your phone from the results.

  3. Once you have chosen the phone to be recycled it will show a quote for how much they will pay for it.

  4. You can choose the payment method of either cash or by vouchers which will pay slightly more.

  5. After reaching the checkout you can choose how you would like the payment sent. Cheque payment is standard but Paypal, shopping vouchers and BACS bank transfers may be available.

  6. Place the phone(s) in a jiffy bag or padded envelope along with the details they provide and the freepost address on the front.

  7. Post it. Wait for them to approve it then receive payment within 3 to 7 days.

To ensure your phone gets there safely it may be best to use a special or recorded delivery service, especially for higher valued handsets. Some mobile recycling companies offer their own envelope which they will send to you for you to put your phones in.
